A study conducted by Pinto et al. (2019) proved that a multicomponent exercise program for 12 weeks was highly effective in significantly improving the quality of life for breast cancer survivors. Specific changes were noted in improved physical health and lessened fatigue, underscoring the importance of structured exercise programs in regaining strength and improving mood. However, as Santos et al. 2023 noted, there are many barriers and challenges to the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer. Many of these barriers are cultural, social, and economic, such as a lack of access to healthy food, physical activity, and awareness of the risks associated with unhealthy lifestyles. These issues are further compounded by various socioeconomic disparities that make it difficult for many people to access healthy nutrition and regular physical activity. Further, a lack of health infrastructure and cultural barriers often stand between a patient and timely medical help. The “Promotion of Physical Activity for Cancer Patients” project, selected under the Erasmus+ Sport 2024 program by the EACEA of the European Commission, seeks to change this scenario. Coordinated by A.S.D. Running di Matera, and with the valuable contribution of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, the project spreads physical activity guidelines for cancer patients, mainly women. The project encourages breast cancer patients and survivors to participate in Nordic walking to maintain a better quality of life through specific structured physical activity programs.
