Virologist and Immunologist, Full Professor of Medicine, working on deciphering the mechanisms underlying the infection and pathogenesis, or its control of RNA+ virus, such as HIV-1, Zika and SARS-CoV-2. Recently, working in virosurveillance for SARS-CoV-2 and Monkeypox outbreaks. Doctoral Thesis in Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology on HIV/AIDS at the UB (CIRIT-fellowship, 1993-1997). In 1996, predoctoral fellowship (CIRIT), Department AIDS/Retrovirus Pasteur Institute (Paris, France) directed by Luc Montagnier (Nobel Prize in Medicine 2008). Postdoctoral stage (1998-2002) in the Viral Immunology Unit of the same Pasteur I. (Dr. F. Arenzana-Seisdedos & J-L. Virelizier), studying the first co-receptor for HIV-1 (CXCR4 & SDF-1) (Marie Curie CE Contract (1998-2000), acquiring the status of -Investigator Hired Pasteur- extended with ANRS contract (Feb.2003)). I collaborated with Hybrigenics SA. Next, I obtained a “RamĂłn y Cajal” Contract (2003-2007) in Medicine (ranked 3rd national) in the Faculty of Medicine (UAM, Madrid)”. In 2005, I created the “Cellular & Viral Immunology” Lab. In 2006, I started in Fac. Medicine at ULL. In 2007, I received the highest rating-entire scientific career (I3 Program).
