Joint programmes are defined as an integrated curriculum that is coordinated and delivered collaboratively by various higher education institutions. These programmes result in either double/multiple degrees or a joint degree. Double/multiple degrees are separate degrees conferred by the higher education institutions participating in the joint programme, certifying the successful completion of it. If two degrees are awarded by two institutions, it is referred to as a 'double degree'. On the other hand, a joint degree is a single document awarded by the higher education institutions offering the joint programme, and it is nationally recognized as the official certification of the joint programme. STARS EU is working on a joint strategy for new, agile, flexible, and innovative joint curricula; design and implement joint programmes based on inter-disciplinary and cross-cultural approaches; foster innovation in learning and teaching and deliver future competencies, and innovative pedagogy methods. All of these initiatives set a solid ground for the development of European degrees.
