Europe’s population is ageing and this brings opportunities, not only for older people and their families but also for societies as a whole. Additional years provide the chance to pursue new activities such as further education, a new career or a long-neglected passion. Older people also contribute in many ways to their families and communities. Yet the extent of these opportunities and contributions depends heavily on one factor: health. For promoting healthy living and optimizing healthcare and prevention, education of professionals and research is needed. Healthy Ageing is about adding more healthy years to live. Healthy ageing is about creating the environments and opportunities that enable people to be and do what they value. As the EU faces in most countries similar challenges it is imperative to collaborate on healthy ageing research. In 2021 the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing was declared (2021-2030) and the WHO was asked to lead the implementation. In the EU STARS alliance TIG Healthy Ageing, nine universities of applied sciences spread over Europe are joining forces to take up this new challenge which is perfectly in line with the WHO promoting joint actions on healthy ageing.

Health at the intersection of technology

As the world's population ages, the need for innovative solutions to improve the health and well-being of older adults has never been greater. By bridging the gap between healthcare and technology, the goal of the TIG Healthy Ageing is to address challenges such as early detection of chronic diseases and age-related conditions to reduce the burden on caregivers and healthcare systems, and improve the quality of life for older people. Our mission is to harness the power of technology to detect, monitor and improve the health of (older) adults, empowering them to make their lives longer, healthier and more independent. To achieve this goal, we focus on developing advanced tools and solutions that focus on the following aspects:-Health monitoring by using wearable devices and sensors to track vital signs and detect early warning signs of health problems.-Improved well-being by leveraging smart technology and AI to provide personalized health recommendations and interventions.-Increased independence thanks to the implementation of assistive technologies that allow older people to maintain their autonomy in their daily lives.

Join us

Whether you're a healthcare professional, a tech enthusiast, or simply someone who cares about the future of aging, we invite you to join us in our mission. Together we can create a brighter, healthier future for older people around the world.

Regional Participation and Interregionalization (Regional Transition Accelerator - RTA)

STARS EU represents a great opportunity to accelerate the development of European regions. Special attention needs to be paid to older adults, especially in underserved European regions, to equalize disparities in healthcare and access to care. By sharing knowledge and best practices between our respective countries, we will foster innovative solutions to optimize technologies applied to health systems, aiming towards a better healthy life for our seniors.

Research

Our thematic research group focuses on discovering innovative solutions for the health and well-being of the society of the future. We actively explore funding opportunities, develop competitive grant proposals, and execute national and international research projects. By fostering collaboration and leveraging the multidisciplinary research expertise of the members of the STARS EU alliance, we aim to face tomorrow's health and wellness challenges together with impactful, evidence-based solutions, ensuring improved quality of life for future generations.
