Healthy Ageing

Europe’s population is ageing and this brings opportunities, not only for older people and their families but also for societies as a whole. Additional years provide the chance to pursue new activities such as further education, a new career or a long-neglected passion. Older people also contribute in many ways to their families and communities. Yet the extent of these opportunities and contributions depends heavily on one factor: health.

For promoting healthy living and optimizing healthcare and prevention, education of professionals and research is needed. Healthy Ageing is about adding more healthy years to live. Healthy ageing is about creating the environments and opportunities that enable people to be and do what they value.

As the EU faces in most countries similar challenges it is imperative to collaborate on healthy ageing research. In 2021 the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing was declared (2021-2030) and the WHO was asked to lead the implementation. In the EU STARS alliance TIG Healthy Ageing, nine universities of applied sciences spread over Europe are joining forces to take up this new challenge which is perfectly in line with the WHO promoting joint actions on healthy ageing.

Information about our TIG including the goals and objectives

This newly founded TIG met in November 2022 for the first time and is only starting to organise itself. Even though „Living Spaces“ was initiated from the fields of civil engineering and architecture, we intend to be as open as possible regarding academic fields and disciplines, and invite all teachers and researchers, who are involved in addressing issues of how and where people live, how they organise their mobility, leisure time, etc. The following picture gives an overview on who could join.

For the time being, we focus on organising joint teaching activities, e.g. blended intensive programme (BIP), collaborative online international learning activitiy (COIL), or guest lecturing (virtual and in presence).
In the long run, collaborative projects in teaching and research are envisaged.
